When during the week will my coachings be?

We will be scheduling as many coachings as possible on Fridays after school or Saturdays between 9:00 - 7:00. If, however, neither of these days are possible for an ensemble, we may work to schedule on a different day.

HOW DOES THE TRIMESTER SYSTEM WORK?

At Opus 1 the academic year is divided into three terms, or “cycles”: fall, winter, and spring. Students may enroll for all three trimesters at the beginning of the year with a tuition discount (see the “Admissions” tab), or re-enroll every trimester to commit to one at a time. Groups are assigned new repertoire and may undergo personnel changes between trimesters. Each trimester contains eight coachings, a chamber music masterclass, a solo masterclass (elective), a culminating public concert for all ensembles, and a handful of outreach/service performance opportunities (elective).

Fall trimester typically spans late August through early November, winter trimester early November through mid-February, and spring trimester mid-February through late May.

WHAT ABOUT SUMMERS?

As of summer 2024, we’re proud to offer Opus 360, a week-long day camp and chamber music intensive in June. See our “Summer Program” tab above for more information.

Are the performance and masterclass required?

Yes. Performing experience, a diversity of perspectives, and giving and receiving the support of your colleagues are crucial to understanding chamber music, so all students are required to participate in both events. 

If I’m already an Opus 1 student, do I have to reapply for next trimester?

No, there’s no need to reapply between consecutive trimesters. 

Are there competitions we can play in as part of Opus 1?

We don’t offer our own competition, but we fully support and enable ensembles looking to take advantage of outside performance and competition experiences. If competitions or other events are a goal of your ensemble, we’ll help you strategize, prepare, and locate opportunities that are a good fit. 

AM I ELIGIBLE FOR FINANCIAL AID?

Opus 1 is proud to have a no-questions-asked scholarship policy for students who express financial need in their application. We do not offer merit-based scholarships. If you have any questions about your eligibility, please feel free to contact us and/or note your questions and concerns in your application. We will contact you directly to discuss financial aid upon admission to Opus 1 and placement in an ensemble.
